In the first of a two-part series of Tech Talk with Core, Paul Saer, Core’s Sales Manager for the Public Sector and Connectivity Hub expert, gives an insight into some of the fundamental infrastructure challenges that are common across the industry, and how Connectivity Hub has been designed to resolve them.
Connectivity Hub is a cloud-hosted connection aggregation solution that enables customers with large branch office networks to consume dedicated cloud connections, such as Microsoft ExpressRoute or AWS DirectConnect, without having to install a dedicated connection to each office location.
Instead, these connections are placed into a high-availability, single-tenancy array, hosted in two geographically disparate Tier 1 datacentres which Core design, deploy and manage on your behalf. Offices connect to the Connectivity Hub via a range of options; VPN, MPLS, leased line or other private connection.
Connectivity Hub from Core is a service designed to resolve some of the common challenges enterprise customers face when moving to the cloud.
Running a Microsoft ExpressRoute or AWS DirectConnect to each branch office can become a very expensive undertaking; the cost of the line and the suitable local hardware to connect can have a significant financial impact. Connectivity Hub means that, rather than having to price your cloud connectivity on a per location basis, you can simply buy the right volume of connections to cover the overall bandwidth requirements on an enterprise-wide basis.
Most modern enterprises will have dedicated connectivity to partners, service providers and other 3rd parties. Once again, this can become expensive and cumbersome for organisations with a large branch network. Connectivity Hub can be the central point for all 3rd party connections, reducing cost and complexity as well as improving overall security.
Many customers want dedicated cloud connections for performance and security. Connectivity Hub is hosted in a secure zone of a tier 1 datacentre, with top-flight physical security. The design of Connectivity Hub lets us minimise the attack surface of your organisation while also employing state of the art, carrier-class firewalls to ensure no unauthorised traffic can breach your perimeter.
Connectivity Hub is designed to support customers who need a secure conduit for data from any IoT device, which by their nature are not always very secure. Connectivity Hub is an ideal connectivity solution for the Internet of Things and completes deep packet inspection on all unencrypted traffic through the platform, quarantining any suspicious data or viruses to make sure they don’t infect your IoT data lake.
Customers buying expensive dedicated cloud to site connections are spending more than they have to in the short term, and creating costs (financial and productivity) down the line if they change office locations or need to expand that connectivity. The elasticity we all have come to expect from cloud isn’t quite as instant as we would want it to be in this scenario. Core’s Connectivity Hub can expand bandwidth on connections or enable new connections faster than any other solution.
The technical capability required to build a working Connectivity Hub solution is rare in the marketplace. You only have to search the internet to see that there are only a handful of providers globally that offer such a service, and even less have the referenceability for solutions that have been deployed at scale and work as defined to the customer. Core's Connectivity Hub has been deployed in a number of environments where customers have proved the operational and financial savings models can be achieved.
We have deployed a number of these solutions successfully for customers that have large branch networks and require secure IoT connectivity, as a truly independent provider that leaves your options around bandwidth and cloud providers truly flexible.
